The media! The hunger! The war…what we need to know or, what news
agency want us to focus on?! Most of the time what media try to show us,
is a well prepared ready to sell news package, different than what we
really should be aware of or, focus on! We shall not forget our
awareness defines our actions.
The story of the Madaya city in Syria
is truly heartbreaking; people who left without food for a month or
more in a conflicted zone, shame on any group who they believe fighting
can offer better life condition to the people…! There is no doubt that,
the war is the most tragic human made action in the world.
But in
fact the hunger is not a new story, it is a world problem for decades
& it is not a problem just in Madaya city in Syria, but in some
towns in Yemen, Libya, in Iraq…etc, and it is not happening just because
of the war. The hungriness is happening every day, even in our
neighborhoods! According to the WFP; “Sub-Saharan Africa is the region
with the highest prevalence of hunger “… 66 million primary school-age
children attend classes hungry.” or “One in four of the world's children
are stunted…”. Considering these statistics the media should report
news of the hungry villages/towns almost every day and in many
none-conflicted zones.
But war, “The War”, is causing more terrible
problems than hunger! The violence, fears, insecurity, homelessness,
loses, poverty, and some forever unseen pains…etc. aren’t those really
bigger problem than hunger?
WFP homepage is mentioned: “The good
news is that hunger is entirely solvable. There is enough food in the
world to feed everyone and no scientific breakthroughs are needed.
Today’s knowledge, tools and policies, combined with political will, can
solve the problem”.
Political will and our willingness can solve
the hunger problem hopefully…but what needs to come to an end & with
immediate action is the war, the terrible war! And what needs to
change is our awareness about what is really happening around us,to help
us to use all available tools (&media) to shape the world around
us, and to make it to be safer and better place for all us to live in.
